"The History of Obituaries" event scheduled for All Souls Day, November 2, 2024.
Pulaski, WI – The Pulaski Area Historical Society invites the community to an engaging event, "The History of Obituaries," on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Pulaski Museum. This special program coincides with All Souls Day and is free to attend.
Did you know that the first obituaries date back to 59 BC, published in papyrus newspapers? Initially serving as notifications of daily events, obituaries have evolved into a means of honoring and remembering lives well-lived. Join us for an exploration of this fascinating history, led by Pam Janssen, a board member and mostly-retired local funeral director.
Participants will have the opportunity to delve into the significance of obituaries and even create their own, capturing facts and stories that celebrate the lives of loved ones. As author Chris Cleave aptly stated, “our stories are the tellers of us.”
In addition to this enlightening presentation, attendees can enjoy cookies and refreshments, view museum exhibits, while fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere for sharing stories and connecting with others.
