Join Us for a Traditional “Pisanki” Egg Decorating Class

Pulaski, Wisconsin — On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Pulaski Area Historical Society along with the Polish Heritage Society of NEW are hosting a class on the beautiful Polish tradition of decorating eggs for Easter, known as “pisanki,” which has been celebrated for centuries. The term “pisanki” comes from the Polish verb pisać, meaning “to write” or “to paint,” and each egg is a canvas for intricate designs that symbolize beauty, fertility, rebirth, and life. The class will began at 1 pm and end at 4 pm. The cost of the class is $20 per person. Seating is limited so it is important that you register early.

In our upcoming class, participants will learn the traditional method of creating real pisanki. This involves drawing on eggs with melted wax and then dipping them into vibrant dyes. Historically, these designs are crafted during Lent and are an integral part of Easter celebrations. On Holy Saturday, pisanki are placed in Easter baskets alongside other foods for blessing, and on Easter Sunday, they are exchanged among family and friends as symbols of good health and prosperity.

This event will be taught by local couple Steven and Tracy Karcz, who bring their passion for this cherished tradition to the community. Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot early!
